QUESTION 1: “Do you want to change Maine election laws to eliminate two days of absentee voting, prohibit requests for absentee ballots by phone or family members, end ongoing absentee voter status for seniors and people with disabilities, ban prepaid postage on absentee ballot return envelopes, limit the number of drop boxes, require voters to show certain photo ID before voting, and make other changes to our elections?”
QUESTION 2: “Do you want to allow courts to temporarily prohibit a person from having dangerous weapons if law enforcement, family, or household members show that the person poses a significant danger of causing physical injury to themselves or others?”

How Do I Register to Vote?
- Come to the Town Office and fill out a voter registration card. You can also register to vote on election day at the polls.
- If you are a first time Maine voter, proof of identity will be required as well as proof of Wayne residency.
- Types of acceptable proof include a Maine Driver’s License, Maine State ID, (or out of state photo driver’s license for ID purposes) mail addressed to actual residence (no P.O. boxes) or a utility bill with service address shown.
- If you do not have proof of residence contact the Registrar of Voters at the Wayne Town Office at 207-685-4983.
How Do I Vote Absentee?
Any registered Maine voter may vote absentee. An absentee ballot without explanation can be requested until the “close-of-business” on the Thursday prior to an election. After that, one will have to have a “Special Circumstance” to request an absentee ballot.
An absentee ballot can be obtained in person, by mail, phone, immediate family member, third party or by electronic means.

- By Telephone: (207) 685-4983. (Note: You may only request your own absentee ballot by phone, each family member must request their own ballot.)
- Online: Maine Absentee Ballot Request Service. For more information, please visit the Maine Secretary of State’s website at: www.maine.gov/sos, then click on Maine Absentee Ballot Request Service to request an absentee ballot.
If the ballot is to be taken out of the Town Office an Absentee Application will need to be filled out.
Where Do I Vote?
- Voting on Election Day is conducted at the Ladd Recreation Center located at 26 Gott Road, Wayne, ME 04284.
- Elections are normally held on Tuesday’s and notices are posted at the Town Office and one other location at least seven days before the election.
- Normal election days in Maine are the Tuesday after the first Monday of June and the Tuesday after the first Monday of November.
- The polls open from 8:00AM to 8:00PM in the Town of Wayne.
