General Assistance Program

The Town of Wayne administers a General Assistance program for the support of the poor. Pursuant to Title 22 M.R.S.A. § 4305, the municipal officers have adopted an ordinance establishing that program. Additional information is available on the Documents Page under General Assistance.

Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may do so at the Wayne Town Office:

  • Local GA Administrator: Town Manager
  • Phone: (207) 685-4983
  • Location: 14 Kents Hill Road, Wayne, ME 04284
  • Days: Monday through Friday during regular business hours
  • After Hours / Emergency: Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office - Dispatch at (207) 623-3614.

The municipality’s General Assistance Administrator must issue a written decision regarding eligibility to all applicants within 24 hours of receiving an application.

The Department of Health and Human Services toll-free telephone number, to call with questions regarding the General Assistance Program is 1-800-442-6003.

Ladd Special Fund

The Town of Wayne is very fortunate to have the Ladd Special Fund for residents who don’t meet the state income guidelines for General Assistance but still need help with short-term needs including housing, food, heat, power, transportation, and other essential needs.

The Town would like to take this opportunity to seek your support. These funds have been needed more often than in the past, and we are inviting friends of Wayne to contribute to this fund. Please make checks payable to the Town of Wayne, Memo: Ladd Special Fund. Checks may be dropped off at Town Office DropBox or mailed to P.O. Box 400; Wayne, ME 04284.
